USMX-ILA STRIKE UPDATE-ILA and USMX Reach Tentative Agreement on New Six-Year Master Contract
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) announced this evening that they have reached a tentative agreement on all aspects of a new six-year Master Contract.
Both parties have agreed to continue operating under the current contract until the union convenes its full Wage Scale Committee to schedule a ratification vote, and USMX members approve the final terms.
“We are pleased to announce that the ILA and USMX have reached a tentative agreement on a new six-year Master Contract, subject to ratification, thereby preventing any potential work stoppage on January 15, 2025,” the two groups stated in a joint announcement. “This agreement safeguards existing ILA jobs while laying the groundwork for introducing technologies that will create additional jobs, modernize ports along the East and Gulf coasts, enhance safety, improve efficiency, and strengthen the capacity of our supply chains.”
“This is a mutually beneficial agreement that supports ILA jobs, benefits American consumers and businesses, and reinforces the U.S. economy as a central player in the global marketplace,” the ILA and USMX added.
The specific terms of the tentative agreement will remain confidential to allow ILA rank-and-file members and USMX representatives time to review and vote on the final contract.
